APOLLO's FIRE 2009 BROADCAST SERIES Taking its name from the classical god of music and the sun, Apollo's Fire is dedicated to the performance of 17th- and 18th-century music on the period instruments for which it was written. Music Director Jeannette Sorrell gathers a select pool of dynamic and creative early-music artists from throughout North America and Europe. The ensemble has been praised internationally for stylistic freshness and buoyancy, animated spontaneity, technical excellence, and for the creativity of Sorrell's programming. Robert Conrad hosts this 13-part series of two-hour concert programs which were recorded live in Northeast Ohio venues and possess all the excitement and vitality found only in live performance. Jeannette Sorrell and her troupe explore Mozart's Light and Shadows, bathe in Water Music, Crown a King, frolic at Zimmerman's Coffee House, rediscover Four Seasons, and take pleasure in Lovers and Lyres, Mediterranean Nights, and other lovely adventures. Check out the program listings, and you'll see what we mean. The series culminates in a stirring reading of Bach's St. John Passion sung in English.
